Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah, has debunked
allegations suggesting that his outfit is engulfed with 'mafias'.
At a press conference held in Accra today, Hon. Asiamah described
workers at his ministry as loyal, stating that "what I have found is a team
of dedicated and loyal workers and volunteers who need the right kind of leadership
and a clear direction to deliver on their mandate", while accounting to the media his about duties upon his assumption of office.
According to the Minister, staff at the Ministry are loyal,
hence, proud of them and it's agencies.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports is known by Ghanaians to be
a 'wild' ministry relative to other ministries, with some Ghanaians describing
workers at the ministry as 'mafias', thus saboteurs to the progress of sports
in the country.
During the erstwhile Mills and Mahama government, seven Ministers
for Sports were appointed as ministers, with one spending only three months.
On the bounces of the women's national soccer team, the Black
Queens of Ghana, Mr.Asiamah announced that his outfit as approved an amount of $32,000
dollars for the team, with each expected to receive $1000.00 dollars - an equivalent of ¢45,000.00
Ghana Cedis.
Hon. Asiamah further disclosed that the government has
approved an amount of $8 million dollars for the rehabilitation of the sports
stadia in Ghana, with focus on the Accra and Robert Mensah Sports Stadia in
Accra and Cape Coast respectively.
On the issue of accommodation for Head Coach of the Black
Stars team, Mr Asiamah also confirmed media reports that together with the Minister
of Works and Housing, Samuel Atta-Akyea, they have secured a permanent accommodation
for the current coach, and successive coaches are projected to occupy the
Airport residents.
This, he said, will save the country huge sums of money,
thus protection the public purse.
